Vietnam failed to win the title at the ASEAN Futsal Championships 2009 after losing 1-4 to Thailand in the final at the Phu Tho Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City on June 14.

Suphawut Thueanklang put the guests ahead with his goal right at the first minute of the game.

Na-tee Thusiri scored two more goals for Thailand at the 18th and the 26th minutes, while Nattawut Kongnimit successfully kicked the fourth goal for his team at the 36th minute.

Despite the enthusiastic cheer of 3,000 local fans, the hosts could not turn the game around, as Ngo Anh Dung merely scored a face-saving goal for Vietnam at the 38th minute.

Vietnam previously beat Indonesia 11-10 in the semi-final. It crushed Timor Leste 21-1 in their final round robin match in group B after downing the Philippines 3-0.

In another match, Indonesia defeated the Philippines 4-3 to take the third prize.

Running from June 8 with the participation of seven regional squads, the ASEAN Futsal Championships 2009 is a warm-up event for the teams to prepare for the third Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam and the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos later this year./.
