Vietnam wants Japan to increase its investment and cooperation to help industrialise and modernise Vietnam ’s agricultural sector, including aquaculture, an agriculture official said.

The Southeast Asian country also needs more technical assistance and technological support from Japan in that course, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam told Japanese Senior Vice Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Takahiro Sasaki during his Japan visit from November 12-17.

During the visit, the Vietnamese officials attended a working session with leaders from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Welfare.

The two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the management of agro-product quality, and measures to improve the quality of Vietnamese seafood exported to Japan .

The Vietnamese officials asked the Japanese side to consider raising the acceptable level of Ethoxyquin content, an antioxidant, found in Vietnamese shrimp exported to Japan .

The Japan Food Safety Committee began proceedings to consider the request on November 6.

The Vietnamese delegation also held working sessions with the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Fisheries Association, where it introduced Vietnam ’s 2020 fishery strategy and called for Japanese investment in the sector.-VNA
