Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam - Myanmar FriendshipAssociation on November 11 organized the second national congress for the2021-2026 term in both face-to-face and online forms.

Chu CongPhung, former Ambassador of Vietnam to Myanmar, was re-elected as Chairman ofthe association for the term 2021-2026.

Reportspresented at the congress show that the Vietnam – Myanmar relations have developed fruitfully in the past nearly 50 years. The establishment of comprehensivepartnership between the two countries in 2017 opened up channels of dialogue and closecooperation at the ministerial level in foreign affairs, defence, security, andeconomy – trade.

Vietnam isnow the 9th largest trade partner of Myanmar and the 7th biggest foreigninvestor in the Southeast Asian nation. Two-way trade reached 1.02 billion USDin 2019, and exceeded the set target for 2020. By the end of April 2021, Vietnam’stotal licensed investment capital in Myanmar is 2.2 billion USD, including 11projects, mainly in telecommunications, construction, and banking.

In the previous tenure, the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Associationorganized many activities with practical results, contributing to promotingthe comprehensive cooperative partnership, enhancing mutual understanding andfriendship.

In the next term, the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association plans to continue strengthening cooperation with the Myanmar Embassy in Hanoi,the Vietnamese Embassy in Yangon, and the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Associationto organise exchange activities, and effectively implement the MoU signed by the two associations.

It will also enhance linkages and cooperation with professionalassociations, religious, political, cultural and social organisations in orderto foster economic cooperation and cultural, educational and medical exchangebetween the two countries./.

Vietnam sends more personnel to rescue operations in Myanmar

This marks the first time that the staff members from the department have participated in the ASEAN-ERAT, demonstrating the spirit of “One ASEAN, One Response: ASEAN responding to disasters as one in the region” as affirmed in the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration.

Vietnam, US strengthen higher education cooperation

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc highlighted the growing educational partnership between the two nations, with 30,000 out of 200,000 Vietnamese citizens studying abroad being in the US. In the 2022-2023 academic year, Vietnamese students ranked fifth globally in terms of numbers of international students in the US, rising by 5.7%.

Vietnam delivers 3 tonnes of aid supplies to Myanmar earthquake victims

The aid package includes antibiotics, digestive medications, cold and flu remedies, and basic healthcare equipment like blood pressure monitors, blood glucose metres, bandages, and disinfectants. The supplies also feature mosquito spray pumps and insecticides to prevent disease outbreaks in affected areas.

Can Tho plans to eliminate run-down houses before reunification anniversary
