A conference to discuss Vietnam-Russia cooperation in nuclear power
infrastructure development is taking place in Hanoi from June 23-25.
At the event, Hoang Anh Tuan, Head of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Department of Atomic Energy, introduced the development context of nuclear power infrastructure in Vietnam.
He explained that Vietnam is in phase II of developing its nuclear power infrastructure, according to assessments of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
IAEA also released 42 recommendations for Vietnam, of which the country has satisfied six requirements, he said, adding that on December 11 last year, the country also approved a master plan on nuclear power development as advised by the agency.
Head of the Russian delegation to the conference Sokolov Yury from Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation hoped to study the demand for nuclear power development in Vietnam and committed to supporting the country in this field.
On June 23, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh received the Russian delegation, during which he affirmed that Vietnam is actively working with Russia in training human resources for nuclear power development and pledged that his ministry would pay special attention to boosting cooperation with Russia in the area.-VNA
