The Vaccine and Bio-technological Products Company No.1 (Vabiotech) is now able to produce the A/H1N1 vaccine after several years of research.

The news was released at an international seminar on research and production of the flu vaccine held in Hanoi on June 8.

As from 2006 Vabiotech began research on and produced A/H1N1 flu vaccine which met the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s standards. The company now plans to produce some 1 million doses of the vaccine per year at a cost of 1.5 million USD.

Vabiotech is one of three establishments in Vietnam studying the production of the A/H1N1 vaccine, including the Vaccine and Biomedical Products Institute and the Ho Chi Minh Pasteur Institute.

According to the seminar’s reports, the world every year produces about 300 million doses of three types of vaccines of H1N1, H3N2 and B. According to the WHO, the vaccine production will not meet the demands if the epidemic happens.
