Vietnam to have second national highway

Ho Chi Minh Road, Vietnam’s second national highway, will run through 28 cities and provinces, with a total length of 3,183 km.

According to a detailed plan newly approved by the Prime Minister, theroad will start from Pac Bo in the northern province of Cao Bang andend at Dat Mui in the southernmost province of Ca Mau .

The 28 localities where the road will go through are Hanoi, Cao Bang,Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh in the North,Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, DaNang and Quang Nam in the Central, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and DakNong in the Central Highlands, and Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh,Long An, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau in theSouth.

Construction of the road is now in its secondphase, which started in 2000 and will be completed in 2015 with a totalinvestment of more than 27.7 trillion VND.

Around 445 km of highway will be constructed at a cost of over 273 trillion VND during the third phase (2012-2020).

Earlier, a two-lane section running from Hoa Lac in Hanoi to Tan Canhin Kom Tum was put into service in 2008 as the result of the first phaseof the project (2000-2007), which was constructed at a cost of over13.3 trillion VND.-VNA

The price of E5 RON92 petrol is now capped at 19,462 VND (0.75 USD) per litre, up 199 VND from the previous adjustment, while RON95-III costs no more than 19,967 VND per litre, up 269 VND.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations on a Reciprocal Trade Agreement between the two countries, he emphasised that Vietnam remains consistent in its approach to the talks with the US, aiming for a bilateral agreement based on respect for sovereignty, independence, political system, harmonisation and balance of interests, as well as in line with international commitments and the development level of each country.
