The film entitled “Mui co chay” (Smell of burnt grass) will represent Vietnam to vie for the 2013 Oscar Award for the Best Foreign Language Film, according to Nhan dan (People) newspaper on September 27.

Written by Hoang Nhuan Cam and directed by Huu Muoi, the film won the Silver Lotus award and an award for the best screenplay at the 17 th Vietnam national film festival in the southern province of Phu Yen last December.

It was also the winner of Golden Kite award for the best feature film and several important prizes of the Vietnam Cinematography Association this year.

The 90 minute film, made at a cost of 5.2 billion VND (247,000 USD), talks about young students who voluntarily dropped out of school to join the war against the US forces and the violence that erupted in Quang Tri ancient citadel in 1972.

The film highlights the sacrifices that the youth had made for the country’s liberation.-VNA
