Vietnamese localities build green growth action plan

Hanoi (VNA) – Nearly 30 cities and provinces in Vietnam have built and implemented their action plans on green growth, heard a seminar in Hanoi on October 11.

The seminar was jointly held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam. It highlighted Vietnam ’s green growth strategy on the path to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong said the agreement was passed at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) in Paris in November 2015.

Vietnam reiterated her commitments in the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) to coping with environmental changes, he added.

Many localities and businesses have defined the building and implementation of green growth action plan as a crucial task, hence, promoting all necessary resources, strengthening policy and capacity, and renovating technologies, he said.

He noted that ministries and sectors are completing a draft plan to implement Vietnam ’s INDC for the Government’s approval, stressing that the efforts have helped the country realise the target of sustainable development through 2030.

Ambassador and Head of the EU delegation to Vietnam Bruno Angelet said the EU is the best friend of Vietnam in greenhouse gas emissions mitigation.

Director of the MoPI’s Department for Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment Pham Hoang Mai said the green growth strategy is intended to realise Vietnam’s millennium targets on CO2 emissions reduction, adding that the country still needs international support to fulfill its goals, especially green growth ones.

At the seminar, participants discussed the making of strategic plans of the EU and Vietnam in the fields of green industry, renewable energy, green urban areas, green construction and green finance.-VNA

Three new plant species discovered in Nui Chua National Park

The newly discovered species are shrub-like smaller trees with floriferous branchlets called Sam cuong dai (Memecylon longipedunculatum), Diep ha chau Nui Chua (Nymphanthus adenophorus) and Long muc Nui Chua (Wrightia nuichuaensis). Their discovery was officially published in Phytotaxa, a leading international journal on plant taxonomy and biodiversity, on January 19, 2025.
