Vientiane (VNA) – Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat ofthe Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Tran Quoc Vuong metwith Lao National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou in Vientiane on October 9as part of his official visit to Laos.

Vuongspoke highly of the achievements Laos has recorded in its three years ofimplementing both the resolution adopted at the 10th National Party Congress aswell as the eighth five-year socio-economic development plan.

Heexpressed his belief that under the leadership of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party, the management of the Government, and the supervision ofthe NA, Lao people will be able to overcome any difficulties and challenges to reapgreater attainments during the renewal process.

Theofficial noted with pleasure the progress made in the special solidarity betweenthe two countries across many fields, which, he said, is attributable to the contributionof Vietnamese and Lao legislative bodies. The progress has brought pragmatic benefitsto the people of each country, as well as solidifying peace, stability,cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Vietnamwill do its utmost to preserve and deepen the special solidarity, Vuongaffirmed.

Heused the occasion to thank the Lao Party, NA, Government, and Lao Front forNational Construction for their activities to commemorate former GeneralSecretary of the CPVCC Do Muoi and President Tran Dai Quang who passed awayrecently.

Vuongalso extended sympathies to residents in Attapeu province over the great lossescaused by the dam collapse last July. 

Applaudingthe past cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the official voicedhis belief that the legislatures and their committees will step up the affiliationand exchange of information and experience, as well as instructing ministries,agencies, and localities to implement high-level agreements between the twocountries and cooperation programmes reached by the NAs.

Heurged the two NAs to closely coordinate and support each other at regional andinternational forums, as well as sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, and worktogether to deepen collaboration and connectivity within the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Heproposed the Lao NA Chairwoman instruct the revision of existing mechanisms,policies, and laws and the making of necessary supplements and amendments inorder to bolster trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Speakingof the Lao NA House – a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State, and People toLaos –, Vuong called on the Lao side to adopt specific mechanisms to facilitatethe construction.

Forher part, Pany Yathotou congratulated Vietnam on the past achievements thecountry has reaped and said she believes that under the CPV’s leadership, the Vietnamesepeople will be able to gain even more in the reform process.

Sheexpressed her delight at the development of the Vietnam-Laos special solidarityand comprehensive cooperation, adding that the Lao Party, State, and peoplewill make all-out efforts together with Vietnam to cultivate the relationship.

TheLao top legislator told her guest that Vietnamese and Lao legislatures willeffectively realise their cooperation agreement, covering the sharing ofinformation and experience in law-making, supervision, and decision-making onmajor national matters.

Thesame day, Vuong visited former General Secretary of the LPRP and formerPresident of Laos Chummaly Sayasone at his private home. Vuong conveyed PartyGeneral Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other Vietnamese leaders’ regards andwishes of good health to the former Lao leader, while briefing him on thegeneral situation in Vietnam, as well as the specific results of his visit.

Vuongthanked the Party, State, and people of Laos for supporting Vietnam in both thepast struggle for independence and the current national construction anddefence, while expressing his hope that Chummaly Sayasone will continuecontributing to the reinforcement and development of Vietnam-Laos ties.

Forhis part, Chummaly Sayasone showed his delight at the growth of the specialsolidarity and friendship between the two countries. He thanked the Party,State, and people of Vietnam for giving Laos timely and effective help in thepast, underlining that he hopes the two sides will collaborate closely inefficiently implementing agreements reached by senior leaders of the twoParties and countries.

Duringhis stay in Laos, Vuong also had a working session with officials of the Embassyof Vietnamese in Vientiane, and visited the Laos’ National Assembly buildingand the branch of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam.–VNA

NA Standing Committee's key work agenda for 2026 approved

A major focus will be preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The NASC will coordinate with the National Election Council, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and relevant agencies and organisations to continue implementing the election plan, organise oversight of the electoral process, and carry out its duties and powers as prescribed.
