Vietnam’s U22 football team elevated to higher pot of 30th SEA Games

Vietnam were elevated to a higher pot for the group draw for the men’s football of the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30), set to be held later this year in the Philippines.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam wereelevated to a higher pot for the group draw for the men’s football of the 30thSoutheast Asian Games (SEA Games 30), set to be held later this year in thePhilippines. 

Vietnam were moved to pot threealongside Myanmar, while Singapore have been dropped to the lowest-ranked pot.

Previously, Vietnam were placed inpot four, with Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and East Timor.

The organising committee of theregional sporting event recently reviewed the seedings of the team following acomplaint from Vietnam, said the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

In the complaint, the VFF via the VietnamOlympic Committee demanded a higher ranking for their U22 team, pointing outVietnam’s better performance than Singapore who were in Pot 3 at the 2017Games.

At the 29th SEA Games, Vietnamcollected 10 points in Group B, while Singapore earned only six points in GroupA.

Pot one now comprises of hosts thePhilippines and reigning champions Thailand, and the teams will be in differentgroups.

Meanwhile, runners-up Malaysia and third-placed Indonesia are in thesecond pot.

The draw for the men’s football competitionwill be held later. The SEA Games 30 will be held in Philippines from November30 to December 11. -VNA

SEA Games 33: Vietnam win gold in women's canoe double

In the qualifying round, they led with a time of 44.875 seconds. In the final, the duo continued to display outstanding form, completing the race in 43.419 seconds, finishing first ahead of strong competitors from Indonesia and Thailand.
