Vinh Long (VNA) – The first Congress of the Vinh Long provincial Party Organisation for the 2025–2030 tenure opened on October 3, outlining plans to develop the province into a major renewable energy hub.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Ngo Chi Cuong highlighted the significance of the Congress, saying that it marks a milestone in the province’s development.
The Congress focused on reviewing the implementation of the resolutions of the 11th Congresses of the Party Organisations of the former Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Long provinces, which were merged into the new Vinh Long province in July, and setting the development goals, directions, and tasks for Vinh Long for the 2025 – 2030 term.
The Congress clearly reflected the province’s determination, will, and aspiration to achieve rapid and sustainable development in the new era.
In the last five years, the Party Organisations have been rigorously implementing the resolutions and directives of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat on organising the political system, aiming for a streamlined, strong, and efficient structure, and ensuring that the two-tier local government operates smoothly and effectively.
The province achieved an average annual economic growth of 5.58%. By 2025, GRDP is estimated at 288.86 trillion VND (10.95 billion USD), with per capita GRDP around 85.31 million VND per year. The private sector recorded an average annual growth of 10–11%, contributing positively to GRDP growth and job creation, and promoting economic restructuring.
The provincial authorities have identified the maritime economy as a key driver for rapid and sustainable growth. The province currently operates a total commercial power capacity of 5,416 MW, including 918 MW from renewable energy, generating nearly 30 billion kWh annually and creating a value of approximately 24.3 billion VND per year.
The province has been approved to add 2,900 MW of wind power and 150 MW of solar capacity by 2030, aiming to become a major national hub for renewable energy in the future.
Addressing the event, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Le Minh Tri said the local authorities should take measures to fully tap their development potential and advantages, and adapt flexibly to the era of digital transformation, international integration, and climate change.
He urged the locality to shift toward ecological, high-tech, and smart agriculture. Vinh Long should develop large-scale production zones closely linked to processing industries and global markets, building integrated value chains from production to processing and distribution, enabling key agricultural products to access demanding markets and achieve higher value.
The province’s industry and renewable energy sector must become a breakthrough driver, leveraging its more than 130 km of coastline, he said, urging the locality to prioritise attracting projects that match its resources, including deep processing and environmentally friendly projects with modern technology.
Tri stressed that Vinh Long needs to increase investment in developing a comprehensive, interregional strategic infrastructure system, including national highways, inland waterways, seaports, and river ports, to expand development space and attract high-quality investment. He also encouraged the development of technology enterprises and innovative startups, and the promotion of technology transfer, application, and collaboration among research institutes, universities, businesses, and the State./.
