The World Bank (WB) has approved a 50-million-USD aid to help Vietnamese Government’s efforts in improving sewage treatment in the country’s industrial zones.

The aid will go to an industrial pollution management project which aims to intensify the application of the legal framework and provisions on environment management in four provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam , Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Under the project, at least eight sewage treatment systems will be built at these four provinces which have the highest concentration of industrial parks.

The project is part of the programmes that the world’s biggest financial institution joins hands with Vietnam to boost sustainable development, one of key areas in the national cooperation strategy between Vietnam and the WB in the 2012-2016 period.

Every day, up to 1 million cubic meters of untreated sewage is released by industrial parks, making up about 70 percent of the country’s total volume of industrial waste water, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment./.VNA
