WB-funded project helps improve environment in Vietnam’s coastal cities

The WB, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Quang Binh province organised a conference to review preparations for the implementation of the Vietnam Coastal Cities Sustainable Environment Project.

Quang Binh (VNA) – The World Bank (WB), the Ministry of Planningand Investment, and the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province organised a conferencein Dong Hoi city on November 30 to review preparations for the implementation ofthe Vietnam Coastal Cities Sustainable Environment Project.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s CommitteeNguyen Xuan Quang stressed the significance of the project to thesocio-economic development of targeted localities in general and Quang Binh inparticular.

Despite a number of difficulties, preparations for the project have been basicallycompleted, he said, expressing his wish that in the coming time, the WB,relevant ministries and agencies, and participating localities will increasecoordination and experience sharing in the implementation of the project.

The project will be carried out in four central coastal cities namely Dong Hoiin Quang Binh province, Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh province, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoaprovince, and Phan Rang – Thap Cham in Ninh Thuan province, with a totalcapital of over 273 million USD funded by the WB.

The 2017-2022 project includes four components: sanitation infrastructureexpansion, urban connectivity improvement, compensation and site clearance, andimplementation support and institutional reform. Its main objective is toimprove environmental sanitation and locals’ health through completingtechnical infrastructure, creating urban scenery and raising public awarenessof environmental protection.

At the conference, participants discussed issues relating to difficultiesfacing localities in the implementation of the project such as investment anddisbursement plans, compensation and site clearance.

Localities were urged to work hard to overcome difficulties so that prioritycontracts for Quy Nhon, Nhan Trang and Dong Hoi subprojects will be signed inJanuary 2019 and for Phan Rang – Thap Cham subproject in March next year.-VNA

Quang Tri: Housing campaign brings hope for landslide-affected communities

The project was inaugurated on December 31, 2025. Over 18 days of construction, teams moved more than 30,000 cu.m of soil, sand, stone, and gravel; installed 200 anti-landslide gabions; built 130 m of drainage channels; planted 2,000 sq.m slope grass; and assisted residents with repairs, moving belongings, and clearing their homes to quickly restore livelihoods.
