- President Vo Van Thuong on December 14 visited theArchdiocese of Hue in central province of Thua Thien-Hue on the occasion of theupcoming Christmas and New Year.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to attend theCommemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship andCooperation and to have bilateral activities in Japan from December 15-18 willcontribute to the success of the event and to promoting the Vietnam-Japanrelations within the framework of the newly established comprehensive strategicpartnership, according to a diplomat.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agencyon the threshold of PM Chinh’s trip, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham QuangHieu said that the summit, to be held after ASEAN and Japan established theircomprehensive strategic partnership in September, will be a good opportunityfor high-ranking leaders of ASEAN countries and Japan to review cooperationachievements, and set out orientations for developing relations in the newperiod, matching the new relationship framework. Read full story

- Vietnam has reaffirmed the country’s strong commitments topromoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) with more effortsand actions to better ensure people’s political, economic, cultural and socialrights, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Speaking at a high-level event to mark the 75thanniversary of the UDHR in Geneva on December 11-12, Ambassador Le Thi TuyetMai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, the World TradeOrganisation (WTO) and other international organisations in Geneva, highlightedmajor priorities of Vietnam in the process. Read full story

-  The Vietnam Red Cross Society will send another600,000 USD to Syria to assist the country in overcoming consequences of theFebruary earthquake, raising the total aid from the Vietnamese Government andpeople to the Middle East country to 900,000 USD, Vietnamese Minister ofForeign Affairs Bui Thanh Son told Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and ExpatriatesFaisal Al-Mikdad during their telephone talks on December 13.

Son affirmed that Vietnam always attachesimportance to and hopes to further deepen the traditional friendship andcooperation with Syria. The Government and people of Vietnam always rememberand highly value the precious support from the Syrian people during its paststruggle for independence and current national construction, he said. Read full story

- Chief of Mission of the International Organisation ofMigration (IOM) in Vietnam Park Mi-hyung has applauded the country’s efforts inimplementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly andRegular Migration (GCM), saying that the Vietnamese Government hastaken proactive steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Addressing a conference to review theimplementation of the GCM in Hanoi on December 13, the official underlined thatthe dialogue and comprehensive cooperation on international migration hasbecome more urgent and important than ever in the context of the increasingnumber of international migrants and the complicated situation of humantrafficking in the world. Read full story

- The Vietnam Record Association on December 13 granted a recordcertificate to the Hau Giang provincial Department of Culture and Sports inrecognition of an event on  processing and presenting the biggest numberof cakes made from rice and sticky rice in Vietnam with 200 dishes in theprovince.

The event was held under the umbrella of the Vietnam-Hau GiangInternational Rice Festival 2023, themed “Centennial Journey of VietnameseRice”, opened in the Mekong Delta province on December 12.Read full story

-  Vietnam is among 45 out of 193 UN member countries whosedeaths in road accidents decreased by over 30% in the 2011-2020 period, saidKhuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Road Traffic Safety Committee.

The information was unveiled at the conference to launch of theGlobal status report on road safety 2023 within the framework of the UN RoadSafety Collaboration (UNRSC) Meeting which took place at the UN headquarters inGeneva, Switzerland, on December 12 and 13. Read full story

- The Ministry of Planning andInvestment’s circular on a set of criteria for green growth statistics willcome into effect on December 15.

These criteria serve as a basis to monitor andevaluate the implementation of the National Green Growth Strategy for the2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 while encouraging economic entities,especially businesses, to catch up with green trends. Read full story

-  The retail prices ofpetrol fell sharply from 3pm on December 14 under the latest adjustment by theMinistry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Finance.

The price of biofuel E5 RON92 was capped at 20,512VND (0.85 USD) per litre, falling 778 VND, while that of RON95-III was reviseddown by 917 VND per litre to no more than 21,405 VND. Read full story

Top legislators of Vietnam, Türkiye meet on sidelines of IPU-152 in Istanbul

The top Vietnamese legislator expressed his admiration for Türkiye’s cultural identity and its friendly, hospitable people, while highly valuing the European country’s growing role and position at multilateral forums and in regional mediation efforts. Vietnam, China sign 32 cooperation documents

The documents include a cooperation plan between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the 2026–2030 period; a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Organisation Commission of the CPV Central Committee and its Chinese counterpart; and a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Parliamentary leaders hail development of Vietnam – Russia ties

The top legislator of Vietnam proposed that both sides deepen political and diplomatic connections, as well as parliamentary cooperation, through delegation exchanges, high-level meetings through various channels, and the successful organisation of a visit to Vietnam by the Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council and a trip to Russia by the NA Chairman to co-chair the 5th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in 2026.

Vietnam, China issue joint statement on deepening Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in new era
