- Party General Secretary To Lam on January 7 stressed the urgent and critical need to transform the country’s development model toward one based on science and technology, alongside the pursuit of double-digit growth in tandem with the establishment of a new growth model.

The Party chief made the emphasis while holding a working session with the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies which sought to discuss orientations for drafting two key resolutions: one on renewing the national development model based on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; and another on strategic solutions to achieve double-digit growth in association with the establishment of a new growth model. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on January 7 demanded the swift completion of the “Quang Trung Campaign” to rebuild and repair houses for people affected by storms and floods in central Vietnam, stressing that all work must be finished ahead of the 14th National Party Congress and the Lunar New Year.

Chairing an online conference with central provinces and cities, PM Chinh reviewed the implementation of the campaign, launched to ensure that no disaster-affected household is left without safe shelter as the country prepares for major political and cultural milestones. Read full story

- The historic joint victory on January 7, 1979 not only helped Vietnam defend its southwestern border but also enabled the Cambodian people and armed forces to overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime, standing as a milestone of pure and faithful international solidarity between the two nations.

According to the Khmer Times, after coming to power in April 1975, the Pol Pot regime plunged Cambodia into a national tragedy as it murdered more than three million innocent civilians in just three years, eight months and twenty days, dismantling the country’s social facilities and pushing the "land of pagodas" to the brink of an unprecedented genocide in human history. - Vietnam and India should set a clear direction to further elevate their bilateral relationship as they approach a decade of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa has said.

In a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 2026 New Year, the diplomat emphasised the need to further strengthen the traditional pillars of the India–Vietnam relationship, anchored in strategic trust, long-standing cultural and historical ties, and growing cooperation in emerging areas. - The Swiss–Vietnam Economic Forum (SVEF) has been closely following developments and preparations for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), said its Secretary-General Rachel Nguyen Isenschmid.

- With domestic telecom operators’ strong efforts to deploy 5G infrastructure on a wide scale, Vietnam expects a surge in new applications in the coming period, delivering significant benefits for the State, businesses and the public.

Since August 2025, Viettel Post has organised dozens of livestream sales sessions in Thai Nguyen, Vinh Long, Bac Ninh and Lai Chau provinces to support the sale of agricultural products in mountainous areas. After just three livestreams in Sin Ho commune of the northern province of Lai Chau, more than 300 tonnes of yacon root were sold by local Mong farmers. Read full story

- Vietnam allocated about 1.15 quadrillion VND (nearly 43.8 billion USD) for development investment in 2025, the highest ever recorded, the Ministry of Finance reported at its year-end review conference held in Hanoi on January 6.

By the end of 2025, the country had completed 3,345 km of expressways, or 3,803 km including interchanges and access roads, alongside 1,701 km of coastal roads, exceeding the targets of 3,000 km of expressways and 1,700 km of coastal highways. Read full story
