- National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai hosted a reception in Hanoi on October 6 for Dr Kambiz Ghawami, President of the World University Service (WUS) of Germany and authorised representative of the State of Hessen, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
Hai commended Ghawami’s contributions to strengthening and developing the friendship, cooperation, and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Germany, particularly with the Hessen, across various fields. Read full story
- Vietnam has been an active and consistent advocate for the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, and remains committed to ensuring that women are not only beneficiaries but also architects of sustainable peace, said Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations.
He made the remarks while addressing the UN Security Council’s open debate on women, peace and security held at the UN headquarters in New York on October 6 to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 1325, known as the WPS agenda. Read full story
- Head of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee has issued Dispatch No.13/CĐ-BCĐ-BNNMT on October 7, urging northern provinces and ministries to take immediate measures in response to heavy rainfall and flooding caused by the remnants of Storm Matmo.
The dispatch was sent to the People’s Committees of Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, and Ninh Binh, as well as the Ministries of National Defence, Public Security, Agriculture and Environment, Construction, and Industry and Trade. National media agencies including the Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, and the Voice of Vietnam were also asked to strengthen communications on disaster prevention. Read full story
- Vietnam recorded 145,000 newly registered enterprises in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 18.9% year on year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).
Not only did the number of new enterprises rise, but their registered capital also grew significantly. Total registered capital reached 1.42 quadrillion VND (53.85 billion USD), up 22.6%, with the average capital per enterprise rising to 9.8 billion VND, up 3.1%. Read full story
- Vietnam is set to top growth charts among developing East Asia and Pacific economies in 2025, with gross domestic product forecast to rise 6.6%, the region's quickest pace, according to the World Bank (WB)'s East Asia and Pacific Economic Update released for October.
The WB projected the bloc's overall expansion to ease to 4.8% this year from 5% in 2024, then slip further to 4.3% in 2026 as trade barriers, geopolitical uncertainties, and reliance on fiscal stimulus weigh on momentum. - As residents across the central province of Nghe An rush to recover from the aftermath of recent floods, dozens of volunteer mechanics have quietly stepped forward, offering free repairs for motorbikes and electronic appliances, and even donating spare parts to help local people get back on their feet.
In early October, when Storm Bualoi had just passed, the local Tan Ky commune was still submerged in water. Thick layers of mud covered the roads; homes and belongings were damaged, and hundreds of motorbikes – essential for people’s daily travel – lay motionless after being flooded. Amid the devastation, a group of volunteer mechanics arrived, becoming the “doctors” for damaged motorbikes, restoring not only engines but also the spirits of flood-hit residents. Read full story
- The US-based website ainvest.com has run an analysis praising Vietnam’s impressive economic performance, citing its gross domestic product (GDP) grew an estimated 8.23% in the third quarter of 2025, despite the impacts of US tariff policies and adverse weather conditions.
According to the article, which was published on October 5, industrial output expanded by 10.8%, driven by a strong recovery in the electronics, textile, and post-pandemic service sectors. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2025 reached 21.5 billion USD, with 56.5% channeled into manufacturing and 19% into electronics.
