Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai hosted a reception in Hanoi on October 6 for Dr Kambiz Ghawami, President of the World University Service (WUS) of Germany and authorised representative of the State of Hessen, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

Hai commended Ghawami’s contributions to strengthening and developing the friendship, cooperation, and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Germany, particularly with the Hessen, across various fields. Read full story

- Vietnam has been an active and consistent advocate for the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, and remains committed to ensuring that women are not only beneficiaries but also architects of sustainable peace, said Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations.

He made the remarks while addressing the UN Security Council’s open debate on women, peace and security held at the UN headquarters in New York on October 6 to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 1325, known as the WPS agenda. Read full story

- Head of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee has issued Dispatch No.13/CĐ-BCĐ-BNNMT on October 7, urging northern provinces and ministries to take immediate measures in response to heavy rainfall and flooding caused by the remnants of Storm Matmo.

The dispatch was sent to the People’s Committees of Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, and Ninh Binh, as well as the Ministries of National Defence, Public Security, Agriculture and Environment, Construction, and Industry and Trade. National media agencies including the Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, and the Voice of Vietnam were also asked to strengthen communications on disaster prevention. Read full story

- Vietnam recorded 145,000 newly registered enterprises in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 18.9% year on year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).

Not only did the number of new enterprises rise, but their registered capital also grew significantly. Total registered capital reached 1.42 quadrillion VND (53.85 billion USD), up 22.6%, with the average capital per enterprise rising to 9.8 billion VND, up 3.1%. Read full story

- Vietnam is set to top growth charts among developing East Asia and Pacific economies in 2025, with gross domestic product forecast to rise 6.6%, the region's quickest pace, according to the World Bank (WB)'s East Asia and Pacific Economic Update released for October.

The WB projected the bloc's overall expansion to ease to 4.8% this year from 5% in 2024, then slip further to 4.3% in 2026 as trade barriers, geopolitical uncertainties, and reliance on fiscal stimulus weigh on momentum. Even so, the region endures as a global bright spot, buoyed by resilience and ample room for structural reform. Read full story

- Vietnam is making swift headway on targets set in the Politburo's Resolution 57, a landmark policy on sci-tech, innovation and national digital transformation. The resolution serves as a core strategy, identifying these domains as the pillars propelling Vietnam's ascent in the digital age.

In parallel with Resolution 57, the launch of the National Digital Transformation Programme and the drafting of a Digital Transformation Law, due for submission to the National Assembly at its next session, represent key advances in forging a comprehensive legal framework to drive the country’s digital transformation. - As residents across the central province of Nghe An rush to recover from the aftermath of recent floods, dozens of volunteer mechanics have quietly stepped forward, offering free repairs for motorbikes and electronic appliances, and even donating spare parts to help local people get back on their feet.

In early October, when Storm Bualoi had just passed, the local Tan Ky commune was still submerged in water. Thick layers of mud covered the roads; homes and belongings were damaged, and hundreds of motorbikes – essential for people’s daily travel – lay motionless after being flooded. Amid the devastation, a group of volunteer mechanics arrived, becoming the “doctors” for damaged motorbikes, restoring not only engines but also the spirits of flood-hit residents. Read full story

- The US-based website ainvest.com has run an analysis praising Vietnam’s impressive economic performance, citing its gross domestic product (GDP) grew an estimated 8.23% in the third quarter of 2025, despite the impacts of US tariff policies and adverse weather conditions.

According to the article, which was published on October 5, industrial output expanded by 10.8%, driven by a strong recovery in the electronics, textile, and post-pandemic service sectors. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2025 reached 21.5 billion USD, with 56.5% channeled into manufacturing and 19% into electronics. Renewable energy and digital industries have also drawn increasing global investor interest, thanks to government incentives and improved infrastructure./. Read full story

Top legislator calls for strict discipline to further enhance quality of NA operations

Chairman Man clearly outlined key tasks for the time ahead and requested the prompt finalisation and promulgation of newly adopted laws and resolutions, proactive reviews to ensure consistency with new guidelines, and thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Japan’s Tochigi Governor

Trung suggested that Tochigi continue to effectively implement signed agreements and further strengthen cooperation in areas that can create new development momentum for Vietnam, such as science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, and the training of high-quality human resources.

PM suggests acceleration of Laos–Vietnam University establishment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the two sides should strengthen the teaching and learning of Vietnamese and Lao in both countries, including introducing Vietnamese as an optional foreign language in Lao schools, while continuing academic exchanges and programmes on tradition education to nurture the special bilateral relationship, he said.

Cook Islands attaches importance to ties with Vietnam

Sir Tom Marsters, Representative of King Charles III to the Cook Islands welcomed the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Cook Islands and Vietnam in April 2022, describing it as laying a long-term vision for friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Government sets out coordinated plan for 2026 elections

The plan also aims to ensure that the elections are conducted in a democratic, equal and law-abiding manner, while being safe and cost-effective, truly becoming a nationwide civic event, thus contributing to strengthening and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the state apparatus and building a socialist rule-of-law state of Vietnam of the people, by the people and for the people.
