- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam will pay a state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and attend a ceremony celebrating the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) from October 9 -11.
The visit will be made at the invitation of Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. Read full story
- The 13th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on October 6, with discussions focusing on preparations for the 14th National Party Congress and socio-economic issues.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 6 signed Dispatch No. 188/CD-TTg, urging proactive measures to cope with the risk of flash floods, landslides and inundation caused by Typhoon Matmo, the 11th to hit the East Sea this year.
The directive was sent to the chairpersons of the People’s Committees of 14 northern provinces and cities, namely Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, and the north central province of Thanh Hoa. - Vietnam's successful campaign to have the United Nations (UN) General Assembly select Hanoi as the host city for the Opening for Signature of the UN Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention) from October 25-26 represents a significant milestone in the nation's multilateral diplomacy, according to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang.
Giang told the press that the campaign began immediately after the convention’s adoption in late 2024. Vietnam mobilised diplomatic efforts across multiple levels and capitals, especially in countries with leading roles in digital technology, to build consensus for its candidacy. Read full story
- Vietnam recorded a 21.5% year-on-year increase in international visitor arrivals to 15.4 million in the first nine months of the year, according to the National Statistics Office of Vietnam under the Ministry of Finance.
The tourism and hospitality sectors continued their stellar performance, with accommodation and food service revenues estimated at 624.4 trillion VND (23.68 billion USD) during the nine-month span, up 14.8% from 2024. Da Nang led the charge with an impressive 18.1% growth rate, followed by Ho Chi Minh City at 18%, Can Tho at 14.2%, Hai Phong at 12%, and Hanoi at 11.9%. Read full story
- Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fisheries sector is on track to hit a record 67 billion USD in export revenue this year, provided it sustains a monthly pace of 5 billion USD through the remaining months, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien told the ministry’s regular press briefing on October 6.
Even amid setbacks from storms, floods and livestock disease outbreaks, the sector logged a robust 3.83% expansion over the first nine months, Tien said. Read full story
- Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) edged up 0.42% in September from the previous month, propelled by higher costs in non-public education services, food, and housing maintenance materials, Director of the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance Nguyen Thi Huong told a press briefing in Hanoi on October 6.
September’s CPI climbed 2.61% from December 2024 and 3.38% from a year earlier. The third-quarter average CPI rose by 3.27% year-on-year, lifting the nine-month average inflation rate to 3.27%. Read full story
- Vietnam’s total import–export turnover between January and September reached 680.66 billion USD, up 17.3% year-on-year, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance on October 6.
The country's exports stood at 348.74 billion USD, a 16% increase compared with the same period last year. Of the figure, the domestic economic sector contributed 85.41 billion USD, up 2% and accounting for 24.5% of the total, while the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) brought in 263.33 billion USD, up 21.4% and making up 75.5% of the total. - Vietnam’s economy expanded at a rate of 7.85% in the first nine months of the year, according to the National Statistics Office of Vietnam under the Ministry of Finance.
At a press conference in Hanoi on October 6, Director of the National Statistics Office of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Huong reported that the nine-month GDP expansion ranks as the second-strongest performance in the 2011-2025 period, only trailing behind the 9.44% growth achieved during the same timeframe in 2022./.
