Agro-forestry, seafood exports up

Exports of agro-forestry and seafood products in the first four months of the year went up 12.8 percent against the same period last year, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Exports of agro-forestry and seafoodproducts in the first four months of the year went up 12.8 percentagainst the same period last year, said the Ministry of Agriculture andRural Development.

Turnover of exports of agro-forestry and seafood products was 5.6billion USD, and in April alone was 1.6 billion USD, with agriculturalproducts accounting for 890 million USD, seafood products 350 millionUSD and forestry products 300 million USD.

Exports of wooden products in April had the highest increase comparedto previous months of the year, taking the total export revenue in thefirst fourth months of the year to more than 1 billion USD, up 35.3percent against the same period last year.

With this growth, the target of fetching 3 billion USD from woodenproduct exports this year is likely to be met, according to theministry.

Seafood product exports in the four-month period of the year haveincreased by 17.4 percent to 1.2 billion USD, with exports of tra andbasa fish and shrimp rising by 15.6 percent and 11.7 percent,respectively.

The EU market continues to lead in importing Vietnamese seafoodproducts, followed by Japan and the US .

Rice exports have reached 2.14 million tonnes worth 1.2 billion USD, adrop of 13.8 percent in volume. It was equal in value compared to thesame period last year.

Export revenues of rubber, pepper and tea all increased in the firstfour months of the year, with export revenue of rubber increasing morethan two times compared to the same period last year to 445 million USD.However, exports of coffee have fallen by 21.9 percent to 651 millionUSD.

Meanwhile, imports of agricultural materials and products have reachednearly USD5 billion in the reviewed period, an increase of 77 percentyear-on-year./.
