An Giang attracts over 1 billion USD in investment in 10 months

The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has attracted 78 projects with total registered capital of 24.8 trillion VND (1.06 billion USD) in the first 10 months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 6.85 percent in the number of projects and 2.97 times in capital, according to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.

An Giang (VNA) - The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has attracted 78 projectswith total registered capital of 24.8 trillion VND (1.06 billion USD) in thefirst 10 months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 6.85 percent in thenumber of projects and 2.97 times in capital, according to the provincialDepartment of Planning and Investment.

Among the projects, twohave foreign investors, with total registered capital of 3.01 million USD. Tenout of  the 78 new projects beganoperation this year.

The province hasattracted 211 projects with total registered capital of 45.35 trillion VND (1.9billion USD) since the beginning of 2016.

This represents anincrease of 1.2 times (or 24.73 trillion VND) in investment capital and 20.57 percentin the number of projects compared to the 2011-2015 period

The projects are mainlyin agriculture, urban infrastructure, trade services, education, health,culture, sports and tourism.

With an aim to attractresources for development, the province will continue to strongly improve thebusiness investment environment and accelerate administrative reform, accordingto the department.

As planned, the provincewill organise an investment promotion conference next month to solicitinvestment in many projects

According to localauthorities, the province will introduce its socio-economic developmentachievements, strengths, and potential at the conference, and hopes to mobiliseresources from domestic and foreign investors for rapid and sustainable growth.

An Giang is located west of the Mekong Delta between the Tien andHau rivers and shares a 100km border with Cambodia in the northwest. It is part of theMekong Delta rice basket. The province also has corn and aquatic products such as basafish, shrimp, and cuttlefish. 

An Giang is renowned forits traditional handicrafts such as Tan Chau silk, Chau Doc fish sauce andother consumer products. The ethnic Cham have a long-standing weavingindustry.-VNA
