Assistance delivered to Ly Son islanders

The chapter, together with the Ho Chi Minh City YoungDoctors’ Association and the city-based Vietcombank Securities Company,on May 10 presented 30 bicycles to needy students and eight sets ofcomputers to local CYU establishments.

They also gave 500islanders in disadvantaged situations with free health check-ups andmedicine worth a total of 160 million VND (7,600 USD).

Recently,fishing boats from Ly Son Island have been attacked by Chinese shipswhile operating normally in waters surrounding Vietnam’s Hoang Sa(Paracel) Archipelago.

May 7 saw two such incidents. T heboat QNg 96416-TS with 16 fishermen on board was chased and attacked by aChinese war ship and a vessel of the China fisheries administrationforce in an area about 15 nautical miles south of Linh Con Island, anisland in Da Nang’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago), and some 70nautical miles east of the site where China illegally positioned its oilrig inside Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.
 
In the othercase, vessel coded QNg 96147-TS was attacked and robbed of its cargoby Chinese forces at 15 degrees 45 minutes north latitude and 112degrees 20 minutes east longitude within the Hoang Sa Archipelago.-VNA
