Chairman of the People’s Committee of the northern port city of Hai Phong Duong Anh Dien has emphasised the important role of Belgium in investment cooperation with the city.

The city’s official made the remark at a working session with a visiting Belgian economic delegation, led by Crown Prince Philippe, in the city on March 14.

The city’s Dinh Vu Industrial Zone, in which Belgian enterprises have invested, is considered an example of investment cooperation between Belgian and other partners, Dien said.

He said he hoped that Belgium will continue with cooperation at a new level with Vietnam and Hai Phong city in particular, to help turn the city into a modern industrial one before 2020.

Prince Philippe said this is the largest delegation to visit the city so far, with the presence of 40 businesses involved in seaport management and development and other economic fields.

The prince said he hopes that Belgian businesses operating in the city will contribute to the time-honoured friendship between Belgium and Hai Phong in health care, green development, restaurants, seaports and potential projects.

After the working session, Prince Philippe and his entourage attended the inauguration of the wastewater treatment plant during his second visit to the Dinh VU IZ, one of Belgium’s most successful projects in Vietnam, which has so far attracted 43 projects totalling 1.54 billion USD.

In the afternoon of the same day, the city’s People’s Committee held a meeting for Belgian and Hai Phong city businesses to discuss possibilities and opportunities for business cooperation.-VNA
