Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia and China began the annual joint military exercise named Golden Dragon 2019 on March 13 in Cambodia’s Kampot province with the participation of nearly 3,000 soldiers of both sides.

This year’s drill is held under the theme of anti-terrorism training and humanitarian relief.

The opening ceremony of the exercise was attended by commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) General Vong Pisen, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian and Major General Feng Xiang of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

RCAF Deputy Commander in Chief Eth Sarath told the media that the 2019 Golden Dragon had grown bigger in terms of both soldier numbers and military equipment. He said soldiers of the two countries will train in the use of anti-terrorism equipment, live-fire shooting, surprise attack, and search and rescue during the 15-day exercise.

This is the third year Cambodia and China have held the joint military exercise. The first Golden Dragon drill took place in 2016 and the second in 2018.-VNA
