Cambodia sets up Inter-Ministerial Task Force Committee to fight online scams

On February 22 and 23, authorities dismantled two illegal online rings in the Cambodian northwestern province of Poipet, arresting 230 foreign nationals involved in unlawful online transactions

Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Cambodian Government will establish an Inter-Ministerial Task Force Committee to fight online scam operations following widespread criticism of alleged large-scale cyber-scams in the country.

The decision, announced on February 24, said the committee is led by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and 24 other cabinet members.

The committee has a secretariat with six specialised working groups focusing on investigation, information technology, law enforcement, international cooperation, media and public relations, general affairs, and a special intervention unit.
