Plans to open the border gate near the disputed Preah Vihear temple between Cambodia and Thailand will be delayed until next month, a Cambodian official said on Dec. 1.
Hang Soth, Deputy Secretary General of the Preah Vihear National Authority, said Thai authorities asked to delay the opening when a bilateral meeting on Nov. 30 failed to reach agreement on the sharing of temple entry fees as well as allowing Thai vendors at a Cambodian market nearby the temple.
The border gate has been closed since July 2008, when Preah Vihear temple was enlisted as a World Heritage site, an action that triggered a military build-up along the border and periodic clashes between Cambodian and Thai soldiers./.
