Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) convened in Phnom Penh on June 14, marking its first meeting in 12 years.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Lam Chea, Minister in charge of the Border Affairs Secretariat, while the Thai delegation was headed by Prasas Prasasvinitchai, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on border affairs.

This engagement followed a brief armed clash on May 28 in the Mom Bei area of Preah Vihear province, one of the long-standing flashpoints along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

The meeting coincided with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000) between the two countries, which laid the foundation for demarcating the land boundary.

Prior to the JBC meeting, both sides held closed-door talks, though no official outcomes have been released./.
