Cambodia’s 5G rollout set to begin in January 2026

The Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications recently announced the formal 2026 timeline following strategic agreements with international development partners.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia plans to officially launch 5G in January 2026, marking an important milestone in this country's digital transformation.

The Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications recently announced the formal 2026 timeline following strategic agreements with international development partners.

5G deployment represents a transformative shift for Cambodia’s digital infrastructure, promising data speeds dramatically faster than current 4G networks. The technology will enable millions of simultaneous device connections per square kilometre, creating foundations for smart cities and connected economies.

The ministry emphasised that 5G deployment strengthens economic resilience by positioning Cambodia as an attractive destination for international investment. The technology promises to enhance productivity across critical sectors including manufacturing, logistics, fintech, e-commerce, and technology startups.

Public services are anticipated to improve significantly, making state offerings across e-health, e-education, and e-government faster and more accessible to citizens nationwide.

The ministry maintained that this foundational digital infrastructure will underpin Cambodia’s future innovation, modernisation, and inclusive digital growth.

It confirmed that it has completed in-depth studies on implementation models and is working closely with all domestic telecommunications operators to ensure technical readiness, service quality, and a seamless transition to nationwide commercial operations starting in 2026./.
