Hanoi (VNA) – The Canadian Government has announced a humanitarianassistance package worth 700,000 CAD (533,000 USD) for residents hit by recent floods inthe central region, according to the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam on November12.
Via the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund, the CanadianGovernment will help the CARE Canada, Oxfam-Quebec and Vietnam’s partnerorganisations provide urgent relief for about 31,000 people hit by floods in HaTinh and Quang Tri, which will give them access to housing, clean water, foodand hygiene services.
Canada will also help the Vietnam Red Cross Society provide assistance for around160,000 affected residents, including urgent medical support, livelihoods,accommodation, clean water and hygiene. Such support will focus on disaster riskmitigation, community connectivity, accountability, safety protection andgender equality.
CanadianAmbassador to Vietnam Deborah Paul affirmed that Canada stays ready to standunited with Vietnam in supporting disaster victims.
Recently, floods and landslides have seriously impacted over 1.3 millionpeople, inundated and damaged nearly 300,000 houses./.
