Vientiane (VNA) – Prolonged rainfalls have recentlyleft eight districts in the Lao central province of Savannakhet inundated.
It was the worst flooding in the past 42 yearsin the locality bordering Vietnam’s Quang Tri province.
The Lao media quoted Vongsavan Viengmany,Chairman of the Sepon district – the hardest-hit in Savannakhet - as saying thatsince October 16, continual rainfalls have raised the water level of Sekong, XeBanghieng and Sepon rivers, submerging thousands of ha of rice and vegetables.
The level on Selanong hydropower lake inMeuang Phin and Meuang Nong districts also reached alarm level.
According to the Lao Meteorological Centre,downpours could prolong till the next 1-2 days in many localities./.
