Chinese nationals arrested for border crossings, illegal arms, drug transport

Cao Bang (VNA) - Authorities in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang have arrested a group of Chinese nationals involved in illegal border crossings and the illegal transport of military-grade weapons and suspected narcotics, local police said on June 10.

Following surveillance and intelligence gathering in the border area, law enforcement discovered three Chinese nationals illegally enter Vietnam from Laos and Cambodia before travelling to Cao Bang with the intention of crossing illegally into China through the border area of Noi Thon commune, Ha Quang district.

Upon their arrest, authorities searched the group's backpacks and confiscated seven handguns, three rifles, two grenades, 470 bullets, two packets of a white powder suspected to be heroin, and many other exhibits.

Vietnamese authorities determined that the group’s actions constitute multiple criminal offences, including the illegal possession of military weapons, unlawful drug possession, and unauthorised border crossings.

Further investigation into the case is underway./.
