Dutch firms seek opportunities in Mekong delta

A delegation of Dutch enterprises arrived in the southern city of Can Tho on March 6 to seek investment opportunities in the locality as well as in the Mekong Delta provinces.
A delegation of Dutch enterprises arrived in the southern city of CanTho on March 6 to seek investment opportunities in the locality aswell as in the Mekong Delta provinces.

Mostenterprises have been doing business in Vietnam in the fields ofconsultancy, technical design, agriculture, water management, cattlefeed, quality management and education.

On theoccasion, representatives of Can Tho city delivered briefings on thelocal geography, economic potential and priority fields for investment.

After establishing diplomatic ties in 1973,Vietnam and the Netherlands have always striven to promote theirrelations, especially in trade.

Vietnam exports40 commodities to the Netherlands , mainly seafood products,footwear, textiles, coffee, rice and pepper.

By theend of 2010, Vietnam ’s export turnover to the Netherlands reached1.68 billion USD. Vietnam ’s imports from that country are mainly inmachinery, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, cattle feed, metal, milkand dairy products.

At present, the Netherlandshas more than 130 investment projects in Vietnam with a totalcapital of 5.7 billion USD.

Most of projects are insouthern provinces in the fields of foodstuffs, oil and gas explorationand exploitation, petrochemicals, cosmetics, hotel business andconstruction.-VNA
