The activity was a response to the appeal of theVietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) on theoccasion of the 50th anniversary of the catastrophe of AO defoliantssprayed by the US troops in Vietnam .
VAVA has called on Vietnamese people and international friends to support AO victims in their lives and fight for justice.
Helpingand supporting Vietnamese AO victims and victims of chemical weapons inthe world also contributed to the cause of protecting long-term justiceand long-lasting peace on earth, said VAVA.
On August 10, 1961,United States (US) warplanes began to spray toxic chemicals on 3 millionhectares of forest, mountain and fields – and almost 26,000 villagesin Vietnam . The US action caused a significant deterioration inthe environment and the health of Vietnamese people.
As a result, nearly 5 million Vietnamese people were exposed to AgentOrange/dioxin, with 3 million of them now suffering from AgentOrange/dioxin related health issues, including numerous children.
At the ceremony, the Vietnamese Embassyreceived money from the Vietnamese community in the RoK, as well asKorean individuals and organisations, which will be sent to the homecountry soon./.
