Hanoi to ban vehicles in busy Hoan Kiem streets

Hanoi will ban all vehicles from entering six streets in Hoan Kiem district every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, the municipal Department of Transport has announced.

As such, vehicles willbe forbidden from entering Hang Buom, Ma May, Dao Duy Tu, Hang Giay,Luong Ngoc Quyen and Ta Hien streets from 7pm-12pm (in summer) andfrom 6pm-12 pm (in winter) on those days.

The measure hasbeen introduced by the department to help pedestrians and businesses onthe streets. New public transport routes are to be introduced.

Six other streets in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, where many buildings dateback to the 18th century, were previously zoned off for walkers everyFriday, Saturday and Sunday night from January 2014.

The area isfamous for serving many of Hanoi’s most famous dishes such as Bun Thang(Rice vermicelli soup served with chicken, fried egg, meat pie andmushroom), La Vong grilled fish, Pho (noodle soup served with beef orchicken) and Bun cha (rice noodle served with grilled pork).-VNA
