Hanoi (VNA) – The “Happiness Train” was launched on February 2 at the Hanoi Railway Station by Nhan dan (People) Newspaper, in coordination with the Vietnam Railways Corporation and Coteccons Construction JSC, as a meaningful initiative to spread compassion, optimism and national pride at the start of the Lunar New Year - the Year of the Horse.
Speaking at the ceremony, Le Quoc Minh, a member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said the train is more than a means of transport. It is designed as a mobile cultural space, where each carriage tells a story about Vietnam’s people, regions, cuisine and cultural identity, helping promote the country’s image and tourism to domestic and international travellers.
He added that the project aims to inspire confidence, pride and a joyful social atmosphere, reminding people that happiness often comes from simple, everyday moments.
Nguyen Quoc Vuong, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Railways Corporation, said the train represents a journey that connects the North and the South, links the railway sector with the public, and spreads positive values throughout the community.
Conceived as a fresh and meaningful beginning for 2026, the “Happiness Train” embodies the commitment of Nhan Dan Newspaper and Vietnam Railways to community engagement and national connectivity along the length of the country. At the launch event, the organisers presented 100 gift packages to passengers travelling on the special service.
The programme will continue on New Year’s Eve, when another “Happiness Train” will depart, turning the journey into a festive space of reunion, sharing and good wishes. Passengers on board on Lunar New Year’s Eve (February 17) will also receive lucky money from the organisers.
Operating under the code SE5, the “Happiness Train” runs daily on the North–South route, departing Hanoi at 8:55 am. and arriving at Saigon Station at around 6:40 pm. the following day./.
