Hanoi (VNA) – Unity is an incredibly valuable tradition in Vietnam. It is the source of strength that ensures the country’s enduring existence and development. It is the common thread that runs through the country’s history, a strategic guideline that is vital for the Vietnamese revolution.
Since the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) 95 years ago, maintaining solidarity and unity within the Party has become a fundamental principle for Party building and development.
At each turning point of the revolution, with sound policies and unified leadership, as well as the strength of national unity from the central to the grassroots levels, the Party has lead the nation to the success of national liberation, defence and development.
Entering era of nation’s rise with solidarity
With synchronous guidelines and solutions, the CPV has harnessed the strength of the great national unity. It has combined the power of the entire nation with the strength of the era to overcome all difficulties and challenges; maintain independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; and successfully implement the renewal process.
The more the solidarity and unity within the Party is reinforced, the stronger the national unity will be.
A united Party and a united nation will amplify internal strength to advance the revolutionary cause of Vietnam to complete victory.
Then Party General Secretary and President To Lam on August 3, 2024 at the press conference after the 13th Central Party Committee meeting affirmed that nothing is more important than unity and solidarity. Unity is strength. The solidarity within the Party, the Politburo, and the Central Party Committee will continue to spread and be enhanced. This is a good tradition and the strength of the Party and the nation, enabling Vietnam to go through many difficulties and challenges and achieve the goals.
Over the past 95 years, under the leadership of the CPV, Vietnam has undergone two glorious eras.
The first era is the era of independence, freedom, and socialism building (1930-1975). It began in 1930 with the founding of the CPV, which led to the great victory of the August Revolution in 1945 and significant victories in the resistance wars against foreign invasions (1946-1975), along with important achievements in building socialism in the North from 1954 to 1975.
The second era is the era of national unification, renewal, and development (1975-2025). It was marked by the great victory of the resistance war against American imperialists in 1975, establishing a solid foundation for the nation, under the Party’s leadership, to embark on the renewal process that began at the Party’s sixth congress in 1986, creating comprehensive development across various fields.
Now, Vietnam is entering the third era, the era of the nation’s rise which will begin with the 14th National Party Congress in 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the renewal process.
From a country heavily devastated by war, Vietnam has emerged as a symbol of peace, stability, and hospitality, and a destination for international investors and tourists. From a backward economy, Vietnam has risen to be among the top 40 economies in the world, with a trade scale ranking in the top 20 countries.
In particular, in 2024, amidst the headwinds of the global economy, Vietnam made a strong impression with a GDP growth of 7.09%, exceeding forecasts and becoming a bright spot for growth in the region. The average GDP per capita at current prices is estimated at 114 million VND (4,700 USD), an increase of 377 USD compared to 2023.
From a country that was isolated and surrounded, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 United Nations members. It has strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries, including all major powers, and is an active member of over 70 regional and international organisations.
The Vietnamese people’s living conditions have significantly improved. The quality of life has gradually been enhanced with signficiant investment in health care, education, training, science, and technology.
The work on building the Party and political system has made significant breakthroughs, and the great national unity bloc continuously strengthened. The political and social situation has been kept stable, while national defence, security, independence and sovereignty firmly maintained. The country's position and prestige on the international stage have been increasingly enhanced.
Taking happiness and well-being of the people as a top goal, Vietnam has achieved the Millennium Development Goals ahead of schedule. This is regarded by the United Nations and international friends as a success story, a bright spot in reducing poverty and continuously improving the material and spiritual lives of citizens.
Party General Secretary To Lam attributed the achievements to the wise leadership of the Party, as well as the solidarity of the entire Party, people, and army, including the important role of the great national unity and the contributions of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organisations.
At the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2024-2029 term, which opened on October 17, 2024, Lam stated that after 40 years of national renewal, with new opportunities and challenges, Vietnam is facing a historic chance to usher the country into the new era – that of the nation’s rise. Under the Party’s leadership, Vietnam will become a strong country with prosperous people, democracy, justice and civilization. By the mid-21st century, it will become a socialist-oriented developed nation with high income, satifying the aspirations of President Ho Chi Minh and the entire nation to position the country alongside the great powers of the world.
To achieve this goal, according to the Part chief, it’s a must to awaken the spirit of patriotism, the desire to devote, the will to be self-reliant, confidence, and self-resilience; harness the strength of the great national unity bloc, and combine the power of the nation with the strength of the era plays. This is the responsibility of the entire Party, people, and armed forces.
In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised that the era of the nation’s rise is an era of breakthroughs and acceleration.
He pointed out that from now until 2030 is the most crucial phase to establish a new world order. It also offers a strategic opportunity and a sprint phase for the Vietnamese revolution to achieve the centerial strategic goals set for the 100th founding anniversary of the country. “Therefore, it is important to maximise the strength of great national unity, as well as the efforts and high determination of the entire Party, people, army, and the whole political system to realise the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation,” he stressed./.
