Vientiane (VNA) – A delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos held an incense-offering ceremony to honour war heroes and martyrs at the Lao – Vietnam Combatant Alliance relic site in Keun village of Thulakhom district, Vientiane province, on December 21.
The ceremony was organised to mark the 81st founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944–2025) and the 36th anniversary of the All-People National Defence Day (December 22, 1989–2025). The delegation, led by Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam, included representatives of Vietnamese agencies in Laos.
The activity aimed to recall the glorious history and heroic traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, pay tribute to previous generations for their immense sacrifices and contributions to national independence and freedom, and reaffirm the sense of responsibility and determination in the cause of national construction and defence. It also reflected the commitment to further nurturing and deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic cohesion between the two countries.
Located about 70 km from Vientiane capital, the relic site serves as a memorial to 28 Vietnamese and Lao martyrs who perished in a joint assault on the French colonial stronghold of Phone He in January 1946. This victory marked a significant moment in the Laos – Vietnam alliance’s fight for liberation in both countries./.
