HCM City (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’sCommittee Vo Van Hoan hosted a reception on April 11 for Washington StateSenator Joseph Nguyen and a delegation from the state.

The city is orienting to develop green economy and speed up digitaltransformation to catch up with the common trend of the world economy, he said, expressing his hope that the state’sbusinesses will participate in the city's economic transformation process,especially in the priority areas and industries such as semiconductortechnology, digital transformation, and green energy.

Stressing the need for the two sides tocoordinate in organising exchange programmes, the municipal leader invited the state to participate in the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum andthe city’s Friendship Dialogue to seek cooperation opportunities.

Joseph Nguyen, Washington state's firstVietnamese-origin senator, expressed his impression of the city's dynamicdevelopment, affirming that the state wants to tighten its friendship with HoChi Minh City, particularly in trade and investment, to bring practicalbenefits to the people and businesses.

Washington state is willing to, togetherwith Ho Chi Minh City, implement contact and dialogue activities to moveforward with specific cooperative actions in the future, he added./.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. It also aims to modernise criminal proceedings through the wider application of digital technologies and closer alignment with international practices.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration.
