Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and US Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Kim on July 8 discussed ways to intensify bilateral trade between the two nations.

Trade between Indonesia and the US was valued at 30 billion USD, lower than the US's bilateral trade with other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

With Indonesia's position as the largest economy in ASEAN, there is plenty of room for increasing the bilateral trade by two or three folds, Hartarto noted in a statement.

The minister also lauded the US's support to Indonesia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Kim was optimistic that the economic ties, covering trade and investment, would continue to develop.

Highlighting the US’s concern over a spike in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, the diplomat said the US has decided to donate 4 million doses of Moderna vaccine as well as technical and other medical aid, including oxygen, to Indonesia.

The two officials also deliberated the prospect of cooperation in renewable energy./.
