Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasised his country's commitment to advancing ASEAN's solutions to regional crises, particularly the situation in Myanmar, while addressing the retreat session of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 26.
He called on ASEAN to consider deploying an observation team to Myanmar, underscoring the bloc’s role in promoting transparency and democratic accountability ahead of the country’s planned general elections in December, the Indonesian media reported.
The Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair should continue engaging all relevant stakeholders, the President noted.
Mentioning ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus (5PC) aimed at ending the instability in Myanmar, President Prabowo affirmed that this must remain the cornerstone of ASEAN’s approach to resolving the crisis.
He called for continued efforts to push for a ceasefire in order to create space for meaningful dialogue and emphasised that Indonesia is ready to support the ASEAN Chair in engaging all parties towards a truly inclusive process.
Regarding the tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, the Indonesian leader praised the role of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in facilitating dialogue and called on both sides to address their differences in the "spirit of ASEAN, as a family.”/.

Speaking at the summit, PM Chinh emphasised that “inclusivity and sustainability” are the strategic choice and requirement of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and suggested the regional bloc strongly promote three sources of strategic strength.
