Hanoi (VNA) – The Party’s internal affairs sector must work to accelerate more substantive, efficient, and sustainable progress in the fight against corruption, wastefulness and negative practices, considering it a strategic and long-term mission requiring persistence, continuity and unwavering resolve, rather than short-term or campaign-style efforts, required Party General Secretary To Lam on January 5.
The Party chief delivered this message at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 5 marking the 60th traditional day of the sector (January 5, 1966–2026), during which the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order for the second time.
The event also saw the presence of former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; State President Luong Cuong; former State President Nguyen Minh Triet; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; former PM Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; former National Assembly Chairpersons Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu.
General Secretary Lam urged the sector to embody the Party’s determination to combat corruption with “no off-limits zones and no exceptions”, ensuring that all are equal before the law, and at the same time, place greater emphasis on preventing wastefulness in order to unlock and efficiently utilise resources for national development.
He underscored that for six decades, the sector has served as a specialised body and indispensable pillar of the Party, playing a critical role in safeguarding discipline within the Party, upholding the rule of law, and strengthening public trust.
As Vietnam is entering a new development phase marked by strong aspirations for progress, alongside intertwined challenges, the requirements for building the Party and political system clean and strong, developing a law-governed socialist state of the people, by the people and for the people, combating corruption, wastefulness and negative practices, safeguarding national security, maintaining social order, and creating a safe and healthy environment for fast and sustainable development are placing heavier responsibilities on the Party's internal affairs sector, he noted.
Given this, the Party leader asked the sector to promote its glorious tradition; renew its thinking, approaches and methods; and elevate its advisory role. Internal affairs work, he emphasised, must not only be correct but also precise, not only timely but also proactive, and not only strict but also humane.
General Secretary Lam also highlighted the importance of close coordination with relevant agencies to monitor developments, promptly advise the Politburo, the Secretariat, and local Party committees and authorities to ensure the effective settlement of emerging and complex issues related to national security and social order.
It is necessary to pay due attention to border security, security in ethnic minority areas, religious security, and rural security, and effectively carry out citizen reception as well as the handling of complaints and denunciations at the grassroots level, thus preventing protracted cases or the emergence of “hotspots.”
The top leader also highlighted the curcial need to build a truly clean and strong internal affairs sector, staffed by personnel with firm political steadfastness, professional competence, ethical conduct, and the courage to uphold justice. Such a force, he concluded, will remain a trusted pillar of the Party and a vital bridge between the Party and the people as Vietnam advances into the new era of development./.
