The 2013 Conference for Investment Promotion and Social Welfare for the Mekong Delta region is scheduled to take place in Vinh Long province on August 30.

The information was announced during a working session between the Southwestern Region Steering Committee and the provincial People’s Committee in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on May 13.

The conference, expected to draw more than 500 participants, will be a base for the Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum, which will also be held in the province in November.

According to the steering committee, this year’s conference aims to introduce and popularise the region’s potential and advantages, create favourable conditions for investors to access key projects as well as learn about investment policies and preferential mechanisms.

At the conference, the committee will announce and present a social welfare fund to the Mekong Delta region and call upon domestic and foreign businesses and organisations to join hands in realising social welfare in the region.

From now until the conference, the committee is expected to mobilise more than 500 billion VND (24 million USD) for social welfare issues and over 147 trillion VND (7 billion USD) for investment promotion in the region.

It expects the conference will be a forum for domestic and foreign investors and organisations to exchange experience and establish cooperation relations to boost regional economic development.-VNA
