Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by VietnamNews Agency.

-PresidentNguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with the compilation group, experts, andscientists on April 2 to look into a report summarising opinions for a projecton making a strategy for the building and completion of the law-governedsocialist state of Vietnam by 2030, with a vision to 2045. 

The summary report, which will serve as a basisfor making the first draft of the strategy, covers the fundamental theoreticalissues on the building and completion of a law-governed socialist state, the HoChi Minh ideology, the Party and State’s viewpoints, along with the formation,facts, principles, targets, reforms, breakthroughs, orientations, tasks, andsolutions for the state building and completion from now to 2030, with a visionto 2045. Read full story

- PrimeMinister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting in Hanoi on April 3 to look into theelectricity supply and the provision of coal and gas for power generation.

Pointing out a soaring power demand as a result ofthe socio-economic development and post-pandemic recovery, the Governmentleader said ministries, sectors, and agencies have yet to act drasticallyenough to carry out his official dispatch, issued on December 24 last year, oneconomical and efficient power use and power supply in 2022 and beyond. -Minister ofIndustry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien met with South African Ambassador MpetjaneKgaogelo Lekgoro on April 2, saying that Vietnam is now in urgent need ofdiversifying coal supply sources as it is promoting post-pandemic economicrecovery.

At the working session in Hanoi, Dien noteddespite the COVID-19 pandemic, trade between the two countries remains stable,at over 1.39 billion USD. South Africa is currently the largest trade partnerand export market of Vietnam in Africa. Read full story

- TheGovernment has issued an action plan to implement the Politburo’s Resolutiondated January 28, 2022, on developing coastal central Khanh Hoa province by2030 with a vision to 2045.

Among the targets for 2025, this resolution aimsat local per capita gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of 104 million VND(over 4,500 USD), an urbanisation rate of 65 percent, non-agricultural workersaccounting for 77.97 percent of the local workforce, and a rate of trainedworkers at 85 percent. Read full story

-Vegetable andfruit exports plunged 9.6 percent year-on-year to 508 million USD in the firsttwo months of 2022 due to a sharp decrease in shipments to China, according tothe General Department of Vietnam Customs.

However, Vietnamese vegetables and fruits enjoyedstrong growth in other major markets, such as the US (79 percent), the Republicof Korea (32 percent), Japan (12 percent), Australia (45.7 percent), and theNetherlands (51.5 percent). Read full story

-Deputy PrimeMinister Le Minh Khai signed a decision on April 1, approving the addition of449 billion VND (19.66 million USD) to the organisation budget of the 31stSoutheast Asian Games (SEA Games 31).

-Le Huu Toan has becomethe first Vietnamese boxer named in the world top 10 of the World BoxingAssociation (WBA).

Lawmakers discuss facilitation of acquiring, regaining Vietnamese nationality

The draft Law on amendments and supplements to certain articles of the Law on Vietnamese Nationality consists of three articles, focusing on two major policies, including the relaxation of conditions related to acquiring Vietnamese nationality for individuals whose biological father, mother, paternal grandparents, or maternal grandparents are Vietnamese citizens.

Vietnamese President welcomes Thai Prime Minister

Vietnamese Party leader receives Thai Prime Minister

The upgrade of Vietnam - Thailand ties to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a historic milestone heralding a new chapter of the two countries’ relations and meeting their development demand in the new period, said Party General Secretary To Lam.

Vietnam, Senegal enhance cooperation across key sectors

In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s exports to Senegal stood at 43.43 million USD, nearly equalling the total for 2024 (43.91 million USD). Vietnam mainly exports rice, pepper, agricultural products, and components, while its imports from Senegal include raw cashew nuts, fishmeal, seafood, and cotton.

Potential to promote Vietnam – Nepal trade

The Vietnam-Nepal relationship is primarily centred on religion, education, people-to-people exchange, business, trade, and investment, Upadhyay said, noting people-to-people diplomacy forms the foundation of this relationship.
