- Party General Secretary To Lam presented gifts to former public security officers who once bravely served during the anti-US resistance war in southern Vietnam, at a meeting in Hanoi on April 8, ahead of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30).

The Party chief expressed his profound gratitude to the veterans, recognising their unwavering dedication and the sacrifices made by the southern public security force and people nationwide during the struggle. Read full story

- National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the Vietnam-Uzbekistan business dialogue on April 8 morning (local time), as part of his ongoing official visit to Uzbekistan.

Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich opened the event, urging a boost in two-way trade, which is currently modest, by leveraging favourable conditions. He touted Uzbekistan’s economic progress and transparent investment policies, pitching opportunities in win-win projects in the fields of oil and gas, aviation, transport, telecoms, digital technology, infrastructure, health care, rice production, and aquaculture. - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez arrived in Hanoi on April 8 evening, beginning his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh.

- Through Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s official visit to Vietnam from April 8-10, Spain looks to demonstrate its political will to fully tap the potential of relations with the Southeast Asian nation, Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Carmen Cano De Lasala has stated.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency about the significance of the trip, Carmen stressed that as the first official visit by a Spanish PM to Vietnam, it is expected to help strengthen and open a new chapter in bilateral ties. Read full story

- The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on April 8 released it’s latest report assessing the readiness of Asia-Pacific economies to tackle climate-related challenges, with Vietnam identified as one of the 11 countries most vulnerable to climate change from a macroeconomic perspective.

Despite driving 60% of the world’s economic expansion in 2024, several countries in the Asia-Pacific region are still not ready to cope with climate shocks and the implications of transitioning to a greener system, according to the 2025 edition of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific. - “Dia Dao: Mat Troi Trong Bong Toi” (Tunnel: Sun in the Dark) grossed nearly 20 billion VND (approximately 770,000 USD) on April 7, marking an unprecedented milestone and setting the stage for director Bui Thac Chuyen to reach 100 billion VND in revenue in less than a week.

Nearly 200,000 tickets were sold on the day, earning 19.8 billion VND, according to Box Office Vietnam. To date, only the Hollywood blockbuster Avengers: Endgame and other films during Tet such as Gai Gia Lam Chieu 3 (The Last Egg 3) in 2020 broke through the revenue of 20 billion VND/day.
