Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received visiting Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu and his delegation in Hanoi on February 6, during which he affirmed Vietnam’s appreciation for its long-standing cooperation with FAO, particularly in rural and agricultural development and sustainable food system transformation.

The Government leader took this occasion to express his gratitude for FAO’s emergency aid package worth 1.9 million USD, which helped Vietnamese people recover from Typhoon Yagi in September 2024. He believed the bilateral cooperation will continue to thrive. Read full story

- Immediate actions must be taken so that all administrative procedures for foreigners in Vietnam will be carried out through online public services, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered while chairing the 10th nationwide online session of the National Committee for Digital Transformation in Hanoi on February 6.

In his concluding remarks, Chinh, who also serves as the head of the committee, called for streamlining administrative procedures and reducing processing times, and implementing online application methods for visa issuance. He urged the online issuance of identity cards for overseas Vietnamese and birth certificates for Vietnamese children born abroad. Read full story

- A conference between the Standing Boards of the National Assembly (NA)'s and Government’s Party Committees took place in Hanoi on February 6, looking in final preparations for the 15th NA’s 9th extraordinary session slated to kick off on February 12.

- The Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Hanoi held a banquet on February 6 evening to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (January 31, 1950 – 2025).

In his speech, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said the bilateral traditional friendship, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung, has overcome historical challenges and been continuously strengthened by generations of Vietnamese and DPRK leaders. - Vietnam’s pepper industry is set for an eventful year in 2025 as global production continues to decline while demand from key markets fluctuates, creating both challenges and opportunities for exporters.

According to Hoang Thi Lien, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, global pepper output is expected to fall for the fourth consecutive year in 2025. The decline reflects a shift away from pepper cultivation, as farmers opt for more profitable crops such as durian, coffee, and oil palm. Additionally, climate change and extreme weather conditions have negatively impacted yields, increasing production costs. Read full story

- As many as 3,637 businesses in the capital city of Hanoi resumed operations in January, marking a substantial increase of 44% as compared to the previous month, data from the municipal Statistics Office showed.

New business registrations saw a 24.3% decline, with 2,045 new enterprises receiving certificates. The total registered capital for the new establishments dropped by 53.4% to 13.8 trillion VND (546.1 million USD). Read full story

- Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah in Beijing on February 6.

Singapore was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) after the signing of the Paris Peace Agreement in January 1973.
