- Party General Secretary To Lam offered incense to heroic martyrs at the Vi Xuyen national martyrs’ cemetery in the northern province of Ha Giang on February 5, on the occasion of the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) (February 3).

- The Hanoi Statistics Office announced on February 5 that the capital city’s consumer price index (CPI) for January inched up 0.51% from the previous month, with 10 out of 11 groups experiencing price hikes.

Leading the pack was the culture, entertainment, and tourism group, which saw the sharpest monthly increase at 0.74%. Close behind was the transportation group, rising by 0.73%; housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials group 0.72%; food and dining services 0.57%; beverages and tobacco 0.54%. - The Nhon Trach 3 power plant, Vietnam’s first LNG-fuelled power plant, was connected to the national grid on February 5, generating 50 MW of electricity.

- A representative from the Ministry of Public Security on February 5 provided an update on traffic safety and order during the freshly ended Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, as well as on efforts to combat cybercrime.

During the nine-day holiday, traffic safety showed remarkable improvement, with accidents down significantly across all three key indicators and over two-digit decreases logged for the first time, Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, Deputy Chief of Office and Spokesperson for the ministry, told the Government's regular press conference. - The Ministry of Health’s Department of Preventive Medicine reported on February 5 that Vietnam’s event-based surveillance system has recorded information about the seasonal flu outbreak in Japan.

According to data published by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases of Japan on January 31, about 9.5 million cases of seasonal flu were recorded in Japan from September 2, 2024 to January 26, 2025. During the final week of 2024 alone (December 23–29), over 317,000 cases were reported./. Read full story

On March 14, 1988, engineering soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Navy stood resolutely on Gac Ma with a unwavering commitment to protecting the national flag amid the vast sea. They faced death head-on, yet refused to retreat or surrender, creating an immortal circle of pride in the East Sea. The 64 soldiers, including nine from Da Nang and one from Quang Nam, laid down their lives.
