– Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has requested the People's Police force to make itself more revolutionary, professional, elite and modern, capable of meeting the demands of the country's new development stage.
The leader made the request while attending a gathering held in Hanoi on July 18 to mark the 64th anniversary of the People's Police force's traditional day (July 20, 1962–2026). Read full story
– Prime Minister Le Minh Hung chaired a government meeting with the business community in Hanoi on July 18, aimed at removing bottlenecks, unlocking resources and driving growth.
Opening the event, the PM underscored the significance of the meeting, saying that it is the first engagement between the new-term government’s members and the business community – the vanguard on the economic front, playing a key role in driving growth, generating employment, and enhancing national competitiveness. – National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on July 19 reaffirmed the Party and State’s enduring commitment to caring for people who rendered service to the nation, stressing that gratitude must be translated into concrete policies and practical support to ensure they enjoy living standards equal to or higher than the average in their communities.

– Vietnam attaches great importance to its traditional friendship with Greece, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said during talks with Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis in Hanoi on July 17.
Welcoming the Greek minister on his official visit, Trung said bilateral ties are built on strong people-to-people bonds, highlighting Hero of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces Kostas Sarantidis (also known in Vietnam as Nguyen Van Lap) as a symbol of the two countries' enduring friendship. – Torrential rains, floods and landslides have left four people dead, four others missing, and nine injured in Lai Chau province while property damage been reported in a number of northern mountainous areas.
Aside from human losses in Lai Chau, 21 houses collapsed, 144 were damaged, and 64 homes affected by flooding and landslides across the provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Dien Bien and Son La as of 8am on July 19, according to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. – Vietnamese students delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) and International Biology Olympiad (IBO), respectively winning four gold medals and four silver medals, the Ministry of Education and Training's Quality Management Department said on July 19.
At the 58th IChO, all four Vietnamese students secured gold medals, placing the country joint first with China and India in terms of the number of golds awarded. Meanwhile, the four-member team at the 37th IBO earned four silver medals, with three students ranking among the top seven silver medallists. – The 10th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2026 officially opened in the southern city of Dong Nai on July 17, bringing together nearly 300 athletes from nine Asian countries and territories.
