Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– The third meeting of the 14th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on July 20, under the chair of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.

The session is to discuss important issues in implementing the 14th National Party Congress’s Resolution, along with items covering Party building, political system and national development in the new stage. Read full story

– Standard Chartered has sharply raised its forecast for Vietnam’s economic growth in 2026 to 9.5%, up from its previous projection of 7.2%, citing stronger-than-expected recovery in manufacturing, investment and domestic consumption.

– Nearly six months after the launch of the Vietnam International Financial Centre in Ho Chi Minh City (VIFC-HCMC), the centre has attracted more than 21 billion USD in investment commitments, highlighting growing international confidence in Vietnam's ambition to become a regional financial hub.

– International passenger traffic through Vietnam’s airports continued its strong recovery in the first half of 2026, with the number of international travellers increasing 15.4% year-on-year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

CAAV statistics show that international passenger throughput reached 26.2 million as of June 15, 2026. Of the total, Vietnamese airlines transported 9.6 million international passengers, a slight increase of 0.2% year-on-year, accounting for 36.6% of the total international passenger market. – Construction of several key components of Long Thanh International Airport is entering its final stages as contractors accelerate progress to meet the project's completion schedule, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

The ACV said on July 20 that contractors are deploying additional workers and equipment to speed up construction under Component Project 3, which covers the airport's essential aviation infrastructure. Major facilities, including the first and second runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, the passenger terminal apron and the aircraft fuel supply system, are approaching completion. Read full story

– Vietnam remained the second most popular overseas destination for Korean tourists in May, after Japan.

Data released by the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) on July 19 showed that 2.34 million Koreans travelled abroad for tourism purposes in May, up 2.4% from April. This marked the first increase in outbound tourism since the beginning of the year. Read full story

– All six Vietnamese students won medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2026 in China, including two golds, three silvers and one bronze, the Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency under the Ministry of Education and Training reported on July 19.

The gold medals went to 12th graders Nguyen Dinh Tung of the High School for the Gifted under the Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and Nguyen Le Nhat Nam of the High School for the Gifted under Hanoi National University of Education. Read full story./.
