Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed the central province of Thanh Hoa to optimise the potential of its four promising growth pillars – Lam Son, Sam Son, Nghi Son and Bim Son, highlighting Lam Son’s potential for airport-linked urban development.

Speaking at a working session with local leaders on November 9, the PM emphasised that Thanh Hoa possesses substantial potential, unique advantages, outstanding opportunities and, especially, strong human capital which is both a driver and a resource for development. Read full story

- Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man attended the Great National Solidarity Festival in Chau Thanh hamlet, An Ninh commune in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, on November 9.

Addressing the event, held in celebration of the 95th founding anniversary of the Vietnam National United Front (November 18, 1930–2025), which is now the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), the NA Chairman commended Chau Thanh hamlet for its achievements and praised the local board for VFF affairs for its community engagement. - A draft resolution recommending the launch of an “International Decade on Culture for Sustainable Development” was unanimously adopted at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on November 8.

The draft, proposed by Vietnam and other co-authors and supported by 71 countries, recommends that the United Nations General Assembly consider launching an “International Decade on Culture for Sustainable Development” as soon as possible, with priority given to the 2027–2036 period. - Simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies for inter-level boarding schools in land border communes took place across 17 provinces and cities nationwide on November 9, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending the main venue in Thanh Hoa province, and the Deputy Prime Ministers joining such events in other localities.

In the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vinh Gia Primary and Junior Secondary Boarding School (currently Luong An Tra Junior Secondary School), which will have 45 classrooms for 1,500 students, with total investment exceeding 186 billion VND (7.06 million USD), scheduled for completion in August 2026. - A seminar took place in Fukuoka on November 7 with a view to sharing information and promoting business expansion into Vietnam among Japanese enterprises in the Kyushu region.

The event was jointly organised by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, the Fukuoka and Kumamoto Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Vietnam’s Newtatco company, and Japan’s Business Support World company. It saw the presence of over 150 representatives from economic associations, enterprises, academia, and training institutions in Japan. Read full story

- The Vietnamese pavilion has attracted crowds at EICMA Milan 2025, taking place at the Fiera Milano Rho exhibition centre in Milan city, northern Italy, from November 4 to 9.

Featuring 10 leading Vietnamese manufacturers, the pavilion showcases a wide range of products and services, including precision mechanical components, plastic parts, electrical and electronic components, and integrated production solutions. With its professional design and strong branding, it highlights Vietnam’s growing industrial capacity and introduces a modern image of the country’s manufacturing sector to global partners. Top legislator calls for strict discipline to further enhance quality of NA operations

Chairman Man clearly outlined key tasks for the time ahead and requested the prompt finalisation and promulgation of newly adopted laws and resolutions, proactive reviews to ensure consistency with new guidelines, and thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Japan’s Tochigi Governor

PM suggests acceleration of Laos–Vietnam University establishment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the two sides should strengthen the teaching and learning of Vietnamese and Lao in both countries, including introducing Vietnamese as an optional foreign language in Lao schools, while continuing academic exchanges and programmes on tradition education to nurture the special bilateral relationship, he said.

Cook Islands attaches importance to ties with Vietnam

Sir Tom Marsters, Representative of King Charles III to the Cook Islands welcomed the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Cook Islands and Vietnam in April 2022, describing it as laying a long-term vision for friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
