- The 14th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee (PCC) elected Tran Sy Thanh, member of the PCC, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, as Chairman of the 13th PCC’s Inspection Commission, on the first day of working.
After Party General Secretary To Lam delivered an opening speech, Politburo member and State President Luong Cuong presided over the morning session. The PCC conducted procedures to introduced personnel to join the Politburo and Secretariat of the 14th Party Central Committee (for both re-election and first-time participation). Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 5 presented a decision appointing Nguyen Quoc Doan, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, as Standing Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.
PM Chinh said Doan is a well-trained and experienced official with strong expertise in the security sector. Over his 27-year career, he has held several key positions at both central and local levels, including Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Public Security, Deputy Secretary of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Lang Son provincial Party Committee, and Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court. - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued an urgent alert as typhoon Kalmaegi is approaches, warning that eight airports across the central region may face direct impacts.
According to the CAAV, the Da Nang, Phu Bai, and Lien Khuong International Airports, along with the domestic airports of Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, and Buon Ma Thuot, are forecast to be directly affected. The Cam Ranh and Dong Hoi airports have been instructed to remain on alert and continuously update weather developments. Read full story
- Vietnam’s digital marketplace is paying off, with 8.73 trillion VND (about 328 million USD) collected from foreign suppliers through the official portal as of September 30, according to the E-Commerce Taxation Sub-Department under the Department of Taxation (GDT).
Data show the broader e-commerce tax intake – covering both domestic and foreign suppliers – reached 152 trillion VND (5.63 billion USD) in the first nine months of 2025, up 64% year-on-year. In 2023, the total stood at around 97 trillion VND and rose to 116 trillion VND in 2024. Read full story
- Vietnam has been elected a Vice President of the 43rd session of the UNESCO’s General Conference, which is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

- Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, with 25 Vietnamese higher education institutions listed, including eight first-time entrants.
Of those ranked previously, seven improved, one maintained its position, and nine dropped. Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU Hanoi) leads Vietnamese institutions, ranked 158th, followed by Duy Tan University (165th), Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (175th), Ton Duc Thang University (231st), and Van Lang University (251st). - The draw for the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals took place on November 5 in Jakarta, Indonesia – the tournament’s host nation from January 27 to February 7, 2026. This marks the second time Indonesia has staged the continental event, after the first in 2002.
The tournament will feature 16 of Asia’s best teams, divided into four groups. The teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals.
