- In the face of extremely serious damage caused by floods, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is now in South Africa to attend the G20 Summit, chaired an urgent online meeting in the early morning of November 23 with leaders of ministries, agencies, and localities on the situation and urgent solutions to respond to floods and natural disasters in some central provinces.
The meeting was connected from South Africa with the Government Headquarters and the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Tay Ninh, and the Civil Defence Command of Military Region 5. - Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc on November 23 signed a decision approving an emergency aid allocation of 1.1 trillion VND (41.74 million USD) from the central budget’s 2025 contingency fund to four provinces – Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Dak Lak – to address severe damage caused by recent floods.
Under the decision, Khanh Hoa will receive 150 billion VND, Lam Dong 300 billion VND, Gia Lai 150 billion VND, and Dak Lak 500 billion VND, in line with the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Finance. Read full story
- Floods in the central and south-central regions of Vietnam have caused extremely severe damage, leaving 102 people dead or missing, with thousands of homes inundated or destroyed, according to disaster authorities.
A report from the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention, updated by 7:00 on November 23, showed 90 confirmed fatalities and 12 people still unaccounted for, a significant increase compared to 24 hours before – November 22 morning updates had the toll at 55 deaths and 13 missing. - Vietnam Airlines on November 23 officially inaugurated its new direct route linking Jakarta of Indonesia and Hanoi of Vietnam with the first flight departing from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, serving the growing travel demand between the two countries amid increasingly bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
The inaugural flight from Jakarta, coded VN634 and carrying 131 passengers, departed at 01:30 on November 23 and landed in Hanoi at 05:50 after 4 hours and 20 minutes.
