Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission To Lam paid a working trip to Tho Chau special zone in the southern province of An Giang on November 19, where he called for its transformation into a green, strong and sustainable maritime special zone.

The special zone, comprising eight islands with a combined land area of 13.98 sq.km, is located about 110km west of Phu Quoc island and roughly 220km from the provincial administrative centre. With its strategically vital location, it serves as a frontline maritime outpost in the nation’s southwestern waters. Read full story

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Algerian counterpart Sifi Ghrieb agreed to elevate Vietnam – Algeria relations to a strategic partnership during their talks in Algiers on the morning of November 19 (local time), as part of the Vietnamese leader’s official visit to the African country.

– Visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Algerian counterpart Sifi Ghrieb held a joint press conference in Algiers on November 19 (local time) to announce the outcomes of their talks, including the upgrade of Vietnam–Algeria relations to a Strategic Partnership.

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on November 19 paid tribute at the Memorial of the Martyr, visited the national museum of the army, and attended the launch of the Arabic edition of the book Dien Bien Phu by the late legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap of Vietnam, as part of his official visit to Algeria.

The memorial, known in Arabic as Maqam Echahid, is a national landmark inaugurated in 1982 to mark the 20th anniversary of Algeria’s independence (1962–1982) and honour those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom. Read full story

– Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc on November 19 met with President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milos Vystrcil, who is on an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Duoc noted Vystrcil’s selection of HCM City as the first stop of his visit reflects the city’s role, potential, and economic–diplomatic position.
